O Arquivo não acrescentou datas, anos entre parênteses nem apuração documental que o texto original não trouxesse: onde a fonte cala, esta página também cala. O quadro de vínculos familiares ao final apenas reorganiza, para o leitor estrangeiro, o parentesco que o próprio texto já declara. Em sua homenagem, rememoro e reproduzo, com pequenos ajustes editoriais, o texto que publiquei em 20 de agosto de 2022 no Conexão Duas Barras e em páginas das Famílias Coirmãs.
Escrito quando Clélio ainda estava entre nós, o registro procurava situá-lo não apenas por sua brilhante trajetória pública e intelectual, mas também pelos vínculos familiares que o uniam a Cantagalo, Nova Friburgo, Bom Jardim, Duas Barras, Sumidouro e Itaocara.
Hoje, sua republicação adquire naturalmente outro significado: o de homenagem e memória.
Clélio Erthal
Nascido em Cantagallo. Filho de Maria Wermelinger Erthal e Eugênio Erthal Sobrinho.
Nos ambientes das famílias Wermelinger Erthal, lembro-me bem de minha avó Francisca (Erthal) Wermelinger referir-se aos pais de Clélio como Lilica e Geninho. Dona Lilica era irmã de Dona Cassita.
Residiam também em Duas Barras os irmãos Manoel Godofredo e Edith, a irmã mais nova.
Em Sumidouro estabeleceram-se os irmãos Ernesto, Oscar, Antônio e as irmãs Ercília e Margarida.
Maria (Erthal) Wermelinger Erthal era filha de Antônio Wermelinger e Georgina Erthal Wermelinger.
Minha avó, minha mãe e suas irmãs os chamavam tio Nico e tia Zina.
Realizo estes registros familiares apenas para estabelecer os vínculos com a nossa região e o seu povo, especialmente Nova Friburgo, Bom Jardim, Duas Barras, Sumidouro, os quais se estendem até Itaocara, terras da antiga Cantagallo.
A trajetória pública
Clélio Erthal iniciou a sua carreira pública como vereador e também exerceu o cargo de vice-prefeito do Município de Itaocara, no vale do rio Paraíba, antiga Aldeia da Pedra, onde o patriarca Xaver Wermelinger faleceu octogenário.
O Dr. Clélio ingressou na magistratura como Juiz Federal e terminou a sua brilhante carreira como Desembargador.
Publicou inúmeros trabalhos jurídicos que aqui não serão mencionados.

Como historiador, que é o foco da nossa abordagem, publicou vários livros sobre a história e a evolução dos municípios da região, a saber:

Mit Trauer haben wir die Nachricht vom Tod Clélio Erthals erhalten — Richter, Jurist, Historiker und herausragendes Mitglied einer Familie, die tief mit der Geschichte des alten Cantagallo und unserer ganzen Region verbunden ist.
Ihm zu Ehren erinnere ich an jenen Text und gebe ihn hier, mit kleinen redaktionellen Anpassungen, erneut wieder: veröffentlicht am 20. August 2022 in Conexão Duas Barras und auf den Seiten der Schwesterfamilien.
Geschrieben, als Clélio noch unter uns war, sollte die Aufzeichnung nicht nur seine glänzende öffentliche und geistige Laufbahn festhalten, sondern auch die familiären Bande, die ihn mit Cantagalo, Nova Friburgo, Bom Jardim, Duas Barras, Sumidouro und Itaocara verbanden.
Heute erhält die Wiederveröffentlichung naturgemäss einen anderen Sinn: den der Ehrung und des Gedenkens.
Clélio Erthal
Geboren in Cantagallo. Sohn von Maria Wermelinger Erthal und Eugênio Erthal Sobrinho.
Im Umfeld der Familien Wermelinger Erthal erinnere ich mich gut daran, wie meine Grossmutter Francisca (Erthal) Wermelinger Clélios Eltern Lilica und Geninho nannte. Dona Lilica war eine Schwester von Dona Cassita.
In Duas Barras lebten ebenfalls die Geschwister Manoel Godofredo und Edith, die jüngste Schwester.
In Sumidouro liessen sich die Brüder Ernesto, Oscar und Antônio sowie die Schwestern Ercília und Margarida nieder.
Maria (Erthal) Wermelinger Erthal war eine Tochter von Antônio Wermelinger und Georgina Erthal Wermelinger.
Meine Grossmutter, meine Mutter und deren Schwestern nannten sie Onkel Nico und Tante Zina.
Ich halte diese familiären Angaben allein deshalb fest, um die Verbindungen zu unserer Region und ihren Menschen sichtbar zu machen — besonders zu Nova Friburgo, Bom Jardim, Duas Barras und Sumidouro —, Verbindungen, die sich bis nach Itaocara erstrecken, in die Ländereien des alten Cantagallo.
Der öffentliche Werdegang
Clélio Erthal begann seine öffentliche Laufbahn als Mitglied des Gemeindeparlaments (vereador) und war auch Vizegemeindepräsident (vice-prefeito) der Gemeinde Itaocara, im Tal des Rio Paraíba, der alten Aldeia da Pedra, wo der Patriarch Xaver Wermelinger als Achtzigjähriger starb.
Dr. Clélio trat als Juiz Federal in die Richterschaft ein und beendete seine glänzende Laufbahn als Desembargador.
Er veröffentlichte zahlreiche juristische Arbeiten, die hier nicht aufgeführt werden.
Zwei brasilianische Amtsbezeichnungen
Juiz Federal bezeichnet einen Richter der brasilianischen Bundesjustiz in erster Instanz. Desembargador bezeichnet einen Richter der zweiten Instanz, an einem Berufungsgericht. Der Text von 2022 nennt das Gericht nicht namentlich; diese Seite trägt es deshalb auch nicht nach.Der Historiker

With sorrow, we received the news of the death of Clélio Erthal — magistrate, jurist, historian, and a distinguished member of a family deeply bound to the history of the old Cantagallo and of our whole region.
In his honour I return to that text and reproduce it here, with small editorial adjustments: it was published on 20 August 2022 in Conexão Duas Barras and on the pages of the sister families.
Written while Clélio was still among us, the piece sought to situate him not only by his brilliant public and intellectual career, but also by the family ties that bound him to Cantagalo, Nova Friburgo, Bom Jardim, Duas Barras, Sumidouro and Itaocara.
Today its republication naturally takes on another meaning: that of tribute and remembrance.
Clélio Erthal
Born in Cantagallo. Son of Maria Wermelinger Erthal and Eugênio Erthal Sobrinho.
In the circles of the Wermelinger Erthal families, I remember well how my grandmother Francisca (Erthal) Wermelinger referred to Clélio's parents as Lilica and Geninho. Dona Lilica was a sister of Dona Cassita.
Also living in Duas Barras were the siblings Manoel Godofredo and Edith, the youngest sister.
In Sumidouro settled the brothers Ernesto, Oscar and Antônio, and the sisters Ercília and Margarida.
Maria (Erthal) Wermelinger Erthal was a daughter of Antônio Wermelinger and Georgina Erthal Wermelinger.
My grandmother, my mother and her sisters called them uncle Nico and aunt Zina.
I set down these family records only to establish the links with our region and its people — especially Nova Friburgo, Bom Jardim, Duas Barras and Sumidouro — links that reach as far as Itaocara, lands of the old Cantagallo.
The public career
Clélio Erthal began his public career as a town councillor (vereador) and also served as deputy mayor (vice-prefeito) of the municipality of Itaocara, in the valley of the Rio Paraíba, the former Aldeia da Pedra, where the patriarch Xaver Wermelinger died in his eighties.
Dr Clélio entered the judiciary as a Juiz Federal and ended his brilliant career as Desembargador.
He published numerous legal works, which will not be listed here.

Juiz Federal is a judge of the Brazilian federal judiciary at first instance. Desembargador is a judge of the second instance, sitting on an appellate court. The 2022 text does not name the court, and this page does not supply one.The historian
